My drawings could be regarded
as distillations of more fully evolved life-forms, constituting the genetic
code for such forms. The drawings are to maps as the floor installations are
to roads. One is a representation and the other is the thing being represented.
In the context of previous work the drawings could be seen as containing the
intrinsic structure of the volumetric forms I have been producing for years.
The formal principle which dictates the geometric possibilities in the drawings
is the manipulation of one singular line formation chosen at random, through
repetition, enlargement, reduction, layering, and inversion. It is my hope
that the viewers involvement in deciphering the pattern or logic of the images
will induce a kind of introspection which will temporarily eliminate the space
between the viewer and what is being viewed, replacing it with the possibility
of experiencing yet another more interior space. If read as road maps the
drawing will leave you with a sense of having been somewhere.
